AURORA HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Arbor Day 2018

Fall

Aurora Hill Elementary School issued the following announcement on April 28.

ARBOR DAY 2018 was a whirlwind success as students throughout the city joined Mayor Irvin and special guests at four schools. From poetry to paintings to planting trees, there was something special happening at location:

• HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL students gave fun facts about trees before the planting of their new tree at the main door of the school. The students decided to name the tree “Irvin” in honor of the mayor. ComEd reps were on hand to speak to students about the importance of tree safety.

• A new tree was planted on the grounds of SIMMONS MIDDLE SCHOOL. First Ward Alderman Tina Bohman joined Mayor Irvin and students to plant the tree and to speak about the importance of trees and taking care of the environment.

• MARMION ACADEMY cadets were excited to receive tree saplings after the new tree was planted on their campus in honor of Veterans Day. Alderman Bohman joined Mayor Irvin.

• A special memorial ceremony was held at COWHERD MIDDLE SCHOOL were a tree was planted in honor of the school’s namesake, the late Henry W. Cowherd. Students read poetry prior to planting the tree.

Special thanks to students and staff at each school; to the City of Aurora Team who prepped the areas and planted trees; to ComEd for teaching students about tree safety; and to the City of Aurora’s Tree Board members for their membership!
