Take extra precautions to secure vehicles, Geneva police warn

Police 05

A rash of car burglaries and one auto theft in Fisher Farms and Pepper Valley subdivisions have prompted police in Geneva to warn residents to take extra precautions, according to a press release from the Geneva Police Department issued Dec. 14.

Since many car thefts and burglaries can be avoided, the announcement said, Geneva police are reminding people to take the following steps to protect their property:

  • Lock all unattended vehicles
  • Remove valuables overnight
  • Close and lock garage doors and windows
  • Leave an outside light on to deter criminals
The release said the stolen car was taken from its owner’s driveway and later found in Chicago. Recently, neighboring communities have also seen similar vehicle crimes, according to the announcement.
