Kane County high school students granted admission to Hultgren's STEM scholars class

Hs 09

Several high school students from Kane County recently joined Rep. Randy Hultgren’s (IL-14) second annual class of STEM Scholars, a student leadership program dedicated to promoting the benefits of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Students from Kane County joining the program are Anthony Bishop (Hampshire High School), Erika Ford (Rosary High School), Brennan Hare (Aurora Central Catholic School), Ava Langstaff (Batavia High School), Connor Rhodes (Illinois Math and Science Academy), Andrew Scott (Batavia High School), Nathan Sommerfeld (Homeschool), Hannah Thiel (Batavia High School), Sophie Walz (Rosary High School) and Sean Walz (Marmion Academy).

STEM Scholars serve as student ambassadors to their local communities, encouraging other students to pursue STEM opportunities while receiving extensive and hands-on leadership training along the way.

“Our first STEM Scholars program last year was a resounding success, and I can’t wait to get started with this new class of talented and enthusiastic group of students who are interested in exploring and promoting science, technology, engineering and math,” Hultgren said. “Our upcoming hands-on learning experiences and in-depth discussions with STEM professionals will help spark their imaginations for the possibilities and careers in STEM fields, and propel them to encourage others to do the same. I have enlisted five Student STEM Advisors to mentor students and enhance the continuity and organization of the program. I look forward to learning alongside our next generation of leaders this upcoming year.”

The representative also announced that he would personally attend the program’s kick-off event, planned for this weekend.

Hultgren’s latest class features 27 students selected from his own 14th Congressional District.
