South Elgin ranked 450th in state in lottery ticket sales for May 2016

The Village of South Elgin had the 450th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of May 2016 -- up 7 spots from its April ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in South Elgin was $18.74 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Kane County Reporter, South Elgin generated $419,133 in net sales from its 18 lottery retailers in May 2016, compared to $439,620.50 in May 2015.

The Village of South Elgin is in Kane County, and has a population of 22,365, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Wayne, Bartlett, St. Charles and Elgin.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in May 2016 was $27,419.25.

South Elgin's top lottery retailer is PS Fuels and Market located at 1190 Middle St, South Elgin, IL 60177.

PS Fuels and Market generated 11 percent of South Elgin's May 2016 lottery ticket sales and 2 percent of Kane County's sales that month, which was $3,729,019.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Kane County in 2015 were West Dundee, Hampshire, North Aurora, South Elgin and Algonquin.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
