The city of Geneva Natural Resources Committee (NRC) invites supporters to its sixth annual Wine, Cheese and Trees event to benefit the downtown urban tree canopy.
The night of fine wine, cheese, appetizers and desserts will occur 7-10 p.m. on March 4 at the Persinger Recreation Center, 3507 Kaneville Road.
In addition to the six wines and treats, organizers will hold a silent auction, a live auction, drawings and a "wine wall." The live auction features a variety of prizes, including an instant wine cellar, weekends at the Prairie Club and the Seth Peterson cottage, and three nights at a Door County resort.
Tickets are available at the Geneva Wine Cellars and Tasting Room at 227 S. Third St., the Geneva Chamber of Commerce at 8 S. Third St. and online. The cost is $30 per person or $100 for four tickets. City funds were not used to purchase the wines.
Event proceeds will go toward the Greening Geneva Initiative, which is working to reforest the city parkway. Over the last few years, the city removed more than 2,700 ash trees infected by the Emerald Ash Borer.
The NRC has already donated $40,000 to the city for nearly 75 new trees. The committee hopes to raise $20,000 at the event to purchase and plant more trees downtown.
