Sidewalk repairs close portions of Route 38

Sidewalk

Construction is planned this fall as crews with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) work to remove and replace sidewalk ramps and curbs that are not ADA compliant.

The majority of the work will take place along Route 38 in Geneva and six other communities.

Construction will begin Sept. 26 at most intersections between Fourth Street and Bricher Road on West State Street and last through Oct. 14, if weather allows.

Prep work by IDOT crews was scheduled to begin Sept. 12 as equipment is moved in for the project and signage posted to make drivers and pedestrians aware.

The construction will create temporary lane closures along West State Street. Drivers should allow extra time to reach their destination as delays are expected. Flaggers will be in the area directing traffic around the constructions zones. IDOT officials will not close eastbound lanes during the peak of morning traffic, nor will they close westbound lanes during evening rush hour.

Pedestrians are asked to abide by sidewalk closure signage, as portions of the sidewalk will be closed during different phases of the project.

Details on the project can be found at the Route 38 Sidewalk Construction webpage.
