Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 75.6 percent of Harry D. Jacobs High School's (HDJHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.

The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.

For HDJHS, its college-enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 70.0 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.

Among high schools in Kane County, the Class of 2015 college-enrollment rate at Geneva Community High School (78.0 percent) was higher than that of HDJHS. Rates at Batavia Senior High School (73.4 percent), St. Charles East High School (72.0 percent), St. Charles North High School (71.8 percent), Kaneland Senior High School (53.4 percent), East High School (19.4 percent), West Aurora High School (30.6 percent), Dundee-Crown High School (32.4 percent) and South Elgin High School (50.6 percent) were all lower.

The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.

Enrollment at HDJHS in 2015 was 2,150; 503 (23.4 percent) were seniors.

ISBE said 62.6 percent of HDJHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.

All students who score a 21 or higher on the ACT qualify as "college ready."

HDJHS students did better in math (55.8 percent) and English (75.6 percent), and worse in science (50.4) and reading (52.0).

Only 36.2 percent of HDJHS students were college-ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
