Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 70.1 percent of Hampshire High School's (HHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.
The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.
For HHS, its college enrollment rate marks a decline since 2014, when 73.9 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.
Among other high schools in Kane County, the Class of 2015 college-enrollment rates at Geneva Community High School (78.0 percent), Batavia Senior High School (73.4 percent), St Charles East High School (72.0 percent) and St Charles North High School (71.8 percent) were all higher than at HHS. Kaneland Senior High School (53.4 percent), East High School (19.4 percent), Larkin High School (22.9 percent), Streamwood High School (29.9 percent) and West Aurora High School (30.6 percent) were all lower.
The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.
Enrollment at HHS in 2015 was 1,411; 307 (21.76 percent) were seniors.
ISBE said 52.6 percent of HHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.
All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."
HHS students did better in math (47.4 percent) and English (73.4 percent), and worse in reading (42.2) and science (44.5).
Only 27.6 percent of HHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
