Geneva Community Unified School District 304 received $215.11 per student from the federal government in 2015, or approximately $1,266,812.23, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) said.
The $1,266,812.23 equals approximately 1.5 percent of District 304's total budget. The state average for federal funding of public school districts is 8 percent, ISBE said.
The Obama administration is threatening to pull federal funding of local schools that refuse to follow Washington directives. Most recently, it ordered all public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity.
Chicago Public Schools gets 16 percent of its funding from the federal government, or twice the state average. Chicago property taxpayers pay for only 49 percent of their school bill; District 304 pays for 91.6 percent.
District 304 spent a total of $14,341 per student in 2015.
Among other Kane County school districts, Aurora East USD 131 ($1,314.78 per pupil) and Batavia USD 101 ($1,682.14 per pupil) received more money from the federal government than District 304.
Community Unified School District 300 spends the most money on public schools in Kane County, at $15,504 per pupil.
