State Senator Don DeWitte has announced that more than $109.4 million in state funding will be directed toward major road and bridge projects in Illinois' 33rd District, which covers parts of northern Kane and southern McHenry Counties. The funds come from the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Multi-Year Program and are part of the Rebuild Illinois Capital Program.

“IDOT is making a major investment in this region, and every community I represent will benefit from the upcoming improvement projects,” said Senator DeWitte, who serves as the Minority Spokesperson for the Senate Transportation Committee. “I am thrilled to see this level of investment being made in the 33rd District.”

From 2026 through 2031, IDOT plans to invest $50.6 billion statewide. Of that amount, $72.4 million is allocated for state highway projects within the 33rd District, while $36.9 million is set aside for local highway initiatives.

“These improvements will make travel safer, strengthen local infrastructure, and support our communities for years to come,” DeWitte added. “They represent an important win for families, farmers, and businesses that depend on reliable and safe roads.”

According to DeWitte, a total of 33 projects in his district will receive funding over six years, with 16 scheduled for 2026. State highway improvements are planned for U.S. Highway 20 as well as Illinois Routes 25, 31, 47, 64, and 72. Local roadway work will occur in Carpentersville, East Dundee, Elburn, Elgin, Sleepy Hollow, South Elgin, and West Dundee.

DeWitte also pointed out a specific project he has supported: a $3 million investment in lighted intersection improvements at Route 38 and Anderson Road in Elburn. “As Elburn has grown, this intersection has become particularly dangerous,” said DeWitte. “This improvement will have a lasting impact on safety and traffic flow through this growing part of the suburbs.”

DeWitte was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2018 as a Republican representative of the state's 33rd Senate District.
