The City of Aurora has initiated the process to construct a sound wall along Orchard Road by issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify an engineering firm with experience in designing noise barriers. The project aims to reduce noise levels for residents living near Orchard Road.
According to city officials, the search for funding sources is ongoing. If the necessary funds are secured and a cost-effective design is developed, construction of the sound wall could start as early as mid to late 2026.
City representatives stated, "We as the City of Aurora have taken the first official step to build the Orchard Rd., sound wall by launching a Request for Qualifications (RFQ), seeking a qualified contractor to design a noise barrier to protect residents along Orchard Rd."
They added, "While still pursuing funding sources to build the wall, we are seeking a qualified Engineering firm with experience building noise barriers to design the sound wall along Orchard Rd. If the City is able to secure funding and come up with an affordable design, construction could begin mid to late 2026."
The city also committed to keeping residents informed throughout each stage of the project: "We will continue to update our residents as the process continues."
