City of Geneva Natural Resources Committee met Aug. 6

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

1. Call to Order

2. Roll Call

• Earth Day Event

i. Every day is Earth Day!

• Eastside Fire Station Natural Landscaping Project

i. Dan Ludwig continues to monitor the plants.

• River Clean-up Day

i. The river cleanup will be September 20th!

• Rain Barrels for sale

i. Barrels are $75 each.

ii. Sold two more barrels.

• Greening Geneva Initiative

i. Review proposed locations for a Fall 2025 planting.

• Wine, Cheese, and Trees

i. Get plenty of rest for 2026.

• Gunnar Anderson Stewardship

i. Workdays will pick back up in October 2025!

• Elm Park Restoration Work

i. Update from Kelvin

• NRC Facebook page and Instagram

i. Updates from Mel and Rachel.

• Pumpkin Recycling

i. 3rd Annual event will be November 8th!

ii. Do we include Flat Can Recycling this year?

• NRC Lecture Series

i. The next lecture will be…..

• Dark Sky Initiative

i. NRC to continue to promote the Dark Sky Initiative.

ii. Jay will work on a Proclamation with the City.

• Tree Ordinance

i. Jay, Kelvin, and Steve met David DeGroot to discuss NRC recommendations.

ii. NRC will review original edits, make updates, and resubmit to Dave.

iii. Will set up additional meetings to review requested changes.

• Bird City Illinois

i. Members of the NRC reviewed items and will review next steps.

ii. Reported findings to SPAC.

iii. Look at an event specifically for this application!

6. New Initiatives

• Create an education piece to reduce plastic and styrofoam at restaurants.

• Continue to support educational opportunity to move Spring leaf collection into May, not April.

• Recycling Bins on 3rd Street

7. Treasurer’s Report
