Illinois State Senator Donald P. DeWitte, representing the 33rd Senate District, announced that he will not seek re-election after his current term ends. DeWitte has been a significant figure in Illinois politics for over three decades.

"This has not been an easy decision," DeWitte stated. "Serving the people of the 33rd Senate District and previously as the Mayor of St. Charles have been among the greatest honors of my life."

DeWitte holds roles such as Minority Spokesperson for the Senate Revenue and Transportation Committees and serves on several other committees including Appropriations, Education, and Environment & Conservation.

His public service career began in 1993 as an Alderman in St. Charles, later becoming Mayor until 2013. He was then appointed to the Regional Transportation Authority before joining the Illinois Senate in 2018.

Throughout his time in office, DeWitte played a key role in legislation related to transportation, education reform, and public safety. Known for fostering bipartisan solutions, he plans to remain active in community service even after leaving office.

"I still believe deeply in public service," said DeWitte. "I intend to remain active in our community."

DeWitte will complete his current term expiring January 2027 and focus on ensuring a smooth transition for his successor.

The petition circulation process for the upcoming election cycle begins this August.
