Nicor Gas has initiated a second natural gas main replacement project in Geneva, focusing on the east side of the Fox River. The work commenced on July 3 and is projected to conclude by late August, contingent upon weather conditions.
The City of Geneva has created a web page to inform residents about the areas affected by Nicor's summer construction activities. The majority of the work will be conducted through underground boring, though some locations may necessitate pavement cutting and road closures.
Residents and businesses impacted by the project will receive flyers from Nicor Gas. The project involves sewer line inspections, utility markings, and identifying locations for new gas lines and meters. Once installation is complete, Nicor will arrange appointments with property owners to connect them to the new infrastructure. Landscaping restoration will follow the construction phase.
This initiative follows an earlier gas main replacement that began in May on Geneva's west side. That project remains ongoing with completion expected between September and October, depending on weather conditions.
Although the City of Geneva is disseminating information to its residents, it emphasizes that it does not have authority or control over Nicor's operations. "The details shared by the City are only as good as the information provided to us by Nicor," officials stated.
