Elgin residents are being encouraged to participate in the Tree Bank Planting Program, which aims to enhance the city's urban landscape. The program offers free trees to participants, allowing them to choose from a variety of species that can beautify their property, provide shade, improve air quality, and potentially increase property value.

The initiative includes a selection of native tree species suited to the local climate as well as ornamental varieties for curb appeal. Residents interested in participating must submit the Tree Bank Planting Request and Tree Selection Form by August 15. Details about the program are available online.

To support Elgin's commitment to maintaining a healthy urban forest, city staff will assist with watering and mulching during the first year of planting to promote strong root growth. Trimming services will also be offered upon request as trees mature.

"The Tree Bank Planting Program is an easy way for residents to help create a greener, more vibrant Elgin."
