The Village of North Aurora is hosting a new event, "Dog Days of Summer," on Saturday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at North Aurora Riverfront Park. The event will feature a pet parade, contests with prizes for pets, and an adoption event in collaboration with local rescue groups.

Participants in the events are required to ensure their pets are vaccinated, socialized, and leashed during the activities. "Entering into any events at Dog Days of Summer including the pet parade and contests signifies your pet meets all of the above," states the announcement.

Sponsors like Mr. Scott’s Dog Spa and Resort and VCAVCA have contributed to making this event possible. Community Relations Coordinator Natalie Stevens can be contacted by those interested in sponsorship opportunities.

The pet parade will start at 9:15 a.m., beginning from Route 31/State Street and proceeding to North Aurora Riverfront Park. Pre-registration for pets is encouraged but on-site registration will also be available from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. Pets may participate in up to two categories such as Biggest Pet or Best Costume.

Contests will follow the parade around 10:15 a.m., allowing participation in categories like Waggiest Tail or Best Trick, limited to the first 15 participants per contest.

An adoption event featuring local dog rescue groups will also take place during Dog Days of Summer. Interested organizations can reach out to Natalie Stevens for more information about participating.
