State Senator Don DeWitte announced that the City of Algonquin has been awarded a grant from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) totaling $1,207,520. This funding is designated for the development of a bike path and pedestrian access along Sandbloom Road.

The ITEP grants are distributed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), with 66 projects across the state receiving funds to improve community infrastructure such as bike and pedestrian paths, sidewalks, and streetscape beautification.

“These grant dollars will be instrumental as the Village of Algonquin seeks to improve multi-use pathways for residents,” said DeWitte. “The Village has made great strides in recent years to improve active and passive recreation opportunities for those who call Algonquin home, and this grant will allow village officials to continue with this important work.”

In Algonquin, the $1.2 million grant will specifically support the construction of a 1.16-mile multi-use path and sidewalks stretching from just south of Teri Lane at the village limits to south of IL Route 62's right of way intersection.

DeWitte noted that there were 233 applications submitted for this round of funding, with a total allocation of $139.2 million covering all selected projects statewide.
