Senator Don DeWitte was honored as "Legislator of the Year" by the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency (IMEA) at their annual dinner. IMEA President Kevin Gaden and Legislative Director Staci Wilson presented the award, recognizing DeWitte's contributions to public power for Illinois residents.
DeWitte expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted IMEA's role in providing sustainable energy to 32 municipal electric systems in Illinois, including his hometown of St. Charles.
The senator also announced a series of upcoming events in the 33rd District. These include traveling office hours, property tax seminars, document shredding events, and senior fairs across various locations. The events aim to assist constituents with issues related to state departments and agencies.
On state budget matters, DeWitte criticized Governor JB Pritzker's proposed tax hikes, which he claims would increase the financial burden on families. According to DeWitte, these hikes are a result of increased government spending under Pritzker's administration. He argued that Democrats are demanding $6 billion in new taxes that would affect middle-class families and retirees significantly.
In other news, the 32nd Annual Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial and Firefighter Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony took place on May 13 in Springfield. The event honored firefighters who lost their lives in service.
Additionally, DeWitte met with nurse leaders from Advocate Health Systems to discuss workplace safety improvements. The meeting was part of ongoing lobby days at the State Capitol.
DeWitte also addressed concerns over proposed gun legislation in Illinois that could impact lawful gun owners without addressing criminal activities effectively.
Residents are reminded about a household hazardous waste collection event scheduled for June 7 at Prairie Ridge High School in Crystal Lake. Pre-registration is required for participation.
Lastly, $400 million in state funding has been allocated by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for local transportation projects aimed at improving roads and transit systems across Illinois. Applications for funding must be submitted by June 1.
