Maura Hirschauer introduced HB1610 in the Illinois House on Jan. 23, 2025, during the general assembly session 104, according to the Illinois General Assembly.

According to the Illinois General Assembly site, the legislature summarized the bill's official text as follows: "Amends the Housing Authorities Act. Requires every housing authority to post on its official website in a downloadable, printable format sample rental or lease agreements that are written in the 3 most common non-English languages spoken in the city, village, incorporated town, or county for which the housing authority was created."

The following is our breakdown, based on the actual bill text, and may include interpretation to clarify its provisions.

In essence, this bill amends the Housing Authorities Act to mandate that every housing authority in Illinois post sample rental or lease agreements on its official website. These agreements must be available in a downloadable and printable format and written in the three most common non-English languages spoken within the city, village, incorporated town, or county where the housing authority operates. The bill aims to improve accessibility and ensure that non-English speakers can more easily understand rental and lease agreements, thereby promoting inclusivity and understanding across diverse linguistic communities.

Maura Hirschauer has proposed another three bills since the beginning of the 104th session.

Hirschauer graduated from Colby College with a BA.

Maura Hirschauer is currently serving in the Illinois State House, representing the state's 49th House District. She replaced previous state representative Karina Villa in 2021.

Bills in Illinois follow a multi-step legislative process, beginning with introduction in either the House or Senate, followed by committee review, floor debates, and votes in both chambers before reaching the governor for approval or veto. The General Assembly operates on a biennial schedule, and while typically thousands of bills are introduced each session, only a fraction successfully pass through the process to become law.
