Senator Don DeWitte and State Representative Dan Ugaste are organizing a Prescription and Over-the-Counter Drug Takeback Event in collaboration with the South Elgin Police Department. The event is scheduled for May 16, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the South Elgin Police Department located at 50 S. Water Street, South Elgin.
Senator DeWitte emphasized the importance of proper disposal of medications, stating, “By properly disposing of unused and expired medications, we are protecting our water supply from contamination, and preventing accidental poisonings or misuse of drugs.” He noted that many people have expired items in their medicine cabinets that need safe disposal to prevent accidental harm.
The event will accept human and pet prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and vitamins. Participants can remain in their vehicles while volunteers collect the items. However, liquids, creams, needles, and illegal drugs will not be accepted.
For additional details about the event, individuals can contact Senator DeWitte’s office at (847) 214-8245 or reach out to Abby via email at amccarthy@sgop.ilga.gov.
