The Village of Montgomery, in collaboration with Earthmover Credit Union, is organizing a free paper shredding event for the community on Saturday, May 10. The event will take place from 9 AM to 12 PM at the Montgomery Police Station located at 10 Civic Center Ave., on the village's west side. This drive-thru event aims to provide an accessible and convenient way for residents to dispose of papers containing sensitive information securely.
Participants are limited to two boxes of paper per vehicle. No prior registration is required as the service operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Volunteers from Earthmover Credit Union will be present to collect donations for Earthgivers, their charitable branch that supports local families and organizations in need. Alex Morales, Business Development Representative for Earthmover Credit Union, emphasized the importance of community support by stating, "As a local credit union, supporting the community is important to our organization and its employees."
Entry for participants will be through Griffin Rd. (Rt. 30), also known as the south entrance to Stuart Sports Complex. Signage will guide vehicles towards the shredding truck parked in the police department parking lot. Volunteers will assist by unloading bags or boxes directly from vehicles, ensuring participants do not need to leave their cars.
Beaver Shredding has been contracted to provide a mobile shredding truck onsite for secure disposal of confidential documents. Papers will be shredded onsite in locked containers for added security.
This event is part of a biannual initiative by the Village of Montgomery, with another shredding opportunity tentatively scheduled for September 27, 2025. For further details about this week's event or other resident support services offered by the Village of Montgomery, visit montgomeryil.org.
