At a Village Board meeting in North Aurora, Officer Joe Norris of the North Aurora Police Department was presented with the Life Saving Award. The honor was given by Mayor Mark Gaffino in recognition of Officer Norris's actions during a critical emergency.

Police Chief Joe DeLeo detailed the events that led to the award. Officer Norris responded to a call about a suicidal person and quickly understood the seriousness upon arrival. Despite the risks, he remained composed and made swift decisions. Recognizing the need for urgent action, Officer Norris forced entry into a home to stop a potential tragedy.

Inside, Officer Norris found an unconscious man in a room filled with toxic fumes. Without regard for his own safety, he entered the hazardous area, removed the man, and provided life-saving aid, reviving and stabilizing him.

Officer Norris's response did not end there; he also offered emotional support and comfort to the individual, helping him process the traumatic experience.

“Officer Norris’s actions reflect the highest standards of service, courage, and dedication,” said Chief DeLeo. “His quick thinking, bravery, and humanity in this life-threatening situation are a powerful example of what it means to serve with honor.”

Officer Norris was thanked for his service, compassion, and commitment to the North Aurora community.
