The St. Charles Fire Department responded to a report of a brush fire in the 4000 block of Lincoln Hwy. The report came in at about 10:21 am, and the first response unit arrived at the scene four minutes later. The fire affected an approximately 80-acre undeveloped wildland area located west of the Illinois Youth Center. The incident commander upgraded the alarm to include brush firefighting vehicles and water tenders due to the wind-driven nature of the fire. The Illinois Youth Center was not at risk during this incident.

By 11:40 am, on-ground managers and aerial drone footage assessed the fire as being under control. Thankfully, there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters in this incident.

Support in handling the brush fire came from the St. Charles Police Department, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Charles Emergency Management Agency, and fire departments from Geneva, Fox River, and Elburn. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
