Illinois residents using I-PASS accounts are being warned about a scam involving fraudulent text messages. According to Tollway officials, these texts claim that recipients owe money to their Illinois I-PASS accounts. The Illinois Tollway has identified this as a phishing scam.

NBC Chicago reported that there has been an increase in the number of such scam texts targeting I-PASS users. These messages are designed to deceive individuals into believing they have outstanding balances on their accounts.

Authorities advise I-PASS users to be cautious and verify any communications claiming to be from the Illinois Tollway. Users should not click on links or provide personal information in response to unsolicited messages.
