State Representative Dan Ugaste from Geneva is urging Governor Pritzker to repeal the Illinois TRUST Act. This legislation currently limits local law enforcement's ability to cooperate with federal authorities in detaining and removing undocumented individuals who have committed crimes.

Rep. Ugaste, a co-sponsor of House Bill 1317, argues that repealing the TRUST Act would enhance public safety by allowing local officials to assist federal agencies more effectively. The TRUST Act restricts information sharing with federal immigration authorities and limits their access to local facilities for enforcement purposes.

The Trump administration emphasized deporting undocumented individuals who have committed crimes as a priority for national safety. "Governor Pritzker has said if you commit a crime, we don’t want you here," Rep. Ugaste stated. He added, "In order to remove these criminals from our streets and do it safely, we must repeal the TRUST Act."

Rep. Ugaste questioned why federal officials should operate without local cooperation and stressed the importance of collaboration between all levels of government for effective public safety measures. "If the Governor is serious about removing these criminals from our neighborhoods, then let’s prioritize public safety first and foremost," he concluded.
