FOIA Request Sent to Kane County Clerk Regarding Election Day Communications on November 15, 2024

FOIA Request to Kane County Clerk Regarding Election Day Communications on November 15, 2024. The request was made by us at the Kane County Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The documents sought are primarily related to communications during the recent election period.

Specifically, we asked for all written communication, texts, emails, and message board interactions between the clerk's office and election judges from Election Day through November 6. In addition to this, we also requested copies of all voice messages left for election judges and the clerk’s office within the same timeframe.

We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also expressed our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await their response and remain committed to delivering factual information about local government affairs to our readership.
