FOIA Request Sent to Kane County Clerk Regarding Election Day Registrations on November 13, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Kane County Clerk on November 13, 2024. The request was made by us at the Kane County Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, sought information about all Election Day registrations that took place on November 5, 2024. Specifically, we asked for:

1) A list of all Election Day registrations including names of registrants, the location where the registration was done, addresses of registrants, type of identification used and identification numbers.

2) All registration forms for those who registered on Election Day.

3) Copies of all identifications used for those who registered on Election Day.

As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to these public records is essential for our professional responsibilities. We also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

Our goal is to provide our readers with accurate information about their local government's activities. This includes shedding light on the voting process and ensuring that it is conducted fairly and transparently. We will continue to seek out and report this kind of vital information in service of our community.
