FOIA Request to City of Geneva Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Kane County Reporter have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our request pertains specifically to new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. We have asked for details such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor's name.
In addition to this information about new permits, we have also requested data on all currently active residential and commercial building permits along with their status. The same fields as mentioned above are requested for these active permits.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
