Senator DeWitte is gearing up for a series of spring events, starting with a shredding event and food drive on May 4th in St. Charles. Partnering with State Rep. Dan Ugaste for the event, Senator DeWitte announced, "I am kicking off my 2024 spring/summer events calendar with a FREE document shredding event this Saturday in St. Charles."
The event will take place at the Salvation Army Tri-City Corps Community Center, where a shred truck will be available from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Senator DeWitte emphasized the importance of following traffic signs and remaining in vehicles, with staff unloading cars. In his announcement, he specified, "While paper folders, staples and paper clips can be fed into the shredder, large binder clips, plastic file folders, and old floppy discs cannot. Additionally, no electronics will be accepted for recycling or disposal."
In legislative news, Senate Republicans, including Senator DeWitte, have been working on a bill to provide stability for abused children in DCFS custody. The bill, Senate Bill 2824, aims to allow children to stay in the same school when taken into DCFS custody, offering them a sense of stability during challenging times.
Another legislative effort led by Senate Republicans is the passage of Senate Bill 3265, which focuses on combating food deserts in Illinois. The bill seeks to increase access to fresh, nutritious food in underserved areas, addressing the issue of food insecurity statewide.
In a move to support people with disabilities, Senate Bill 3323 has been introduced to ensure accessible electric vehicle charging stations. The bill calls for charging stations to be designed with the needs of individuals with disabilities in mind, making them independently usable for all.
Furthermore, Senate Republicans have advanced legislation to provide flexible daycare scheduling options for working parents. The bill, Senate Bill 3207, aims to create a more accommodating childcare system by allowing daycare centers to operate for 24 hours, catering to the varying schedules of working parents.
In a separate development, the Illinois State Police welcomed nine new troopers from Cadet Class 146 into the ISP family. The graduation ceremony took place at the Illinois State Police Academy, marking the completion of a rigorous training program for the new recruits.
Senator DeWitte also recently hosted a Spring Student Advisory Council meeting, where high school students from across the 33rd Senate District came together to engage in discussions about public service and legislative processes. Reflecting on the event, Senator DeWitte commented, "Students get a unique understanding of the importance of understanding both sides of an issue before registering their official support or opposition."
As legislative initiatives continue to progress and community events unfold, Senator DeWitte remains actively engaged in serving the needs of his constituents and advancing important causes in the state of Illinois.
