City of Batavia City Council met Dec. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER by the Mayor at 7:03 p.m. Mayor Schielke asked Police Chief  Mazza to make a brief statement about an accident that had just occurred that involved a police vehicle being hit by another vehicle going northbound at Houston & Rte. 31. There were no serious injuries. 

2. INVOCATION FOLLOWED BY PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE- Invocation led by the Mayor,  Pledge lead by Ald. Wolff. 

3. ROLL CALL- 10 of the 14 aldermen were present. 

Aldermen in attendance: Barraza (7), Lanci (6), Pieper (4), Wolff (2), Solfa (1), Baerren (1), Leman (2),  Malay (4), Uher (5) and Cerone (6) 

Aldermen absent: Beck (5), Chanzit (3), Ajazi (3), Vogelsinger (7) 

Also present were BATV and members of the press, public and the following staff: 

Director of Public Works Gary Holmes 

Fire Department Chief Craig Hanson 

Police Department Chief Shawn Mazza 

Management Analyst Max Weiss

I. RESOLUTION 23-139-R: Authorization to Purchase a 2024 Toyota Model 05-8FBM45T Electric Lift  Truck from Atlas Toyota Material Handling for $79.047.00 (SH 12/5/23 COW 12/12/23 12/0) J. L. ORDINANCE 23-66: Amending the Municipal Code Relating to Electric Rates for Customers Over 50,000,000 kWh Annually (PC 12/07/23 COW 12/12/23 11/0) PU M. ORDINANCE 23-64: Amending the Liquor Code for the Allowance of Packaged Liquor Sales by a Class K License Holder (MW 11/27/23 COW 12/12/23 12/0) 

Motion was made by Ald. Uher, seconded by Ald. Malay to approve the consent agenda as presented. 10 Ayes, 0 Nays, 4 Absent. Motion passed. 

Alderman Vogelsinger entered the meeting at 7:10 p.m. 

7. MATTERS FROM THE PUBLIC: (For Items NOT on the Agenda) 

None 

8. RECOGNITION: Firefighter of the Year – Joe Zelek 

Fire Chief Craig Hanson congratulated Firefighter Zelek on being the recipient of the Batavia Fire Department Benevolent Association Recognition and Awards program. Mayor Schielke spoke about the  history of the Batavia Fire Department. 

9. MAINSTREET 

Beth Walker, Executive Director, gave her monthly report. The Batavia Indoor Market is open for the winter at 131 Flinn Street, Unit C. Batavia Boardwalk Shops fourth season has just finished and five of the businesses will be continuing in the downtown area. Applications for the 5th season are now being  accepted.  

10. RESOLUTION 23-140-R: Authorizing Execution of a Contract with Powerlink Electric, LLC for  Batavia Public Works Generator Replacement Project (SH) 

Motion was made by Ald. Wolff, seconded by Ald. Malay. 11 Ayes, 0 Nays, 3 Absent. Motion  passed.  

11. RESOLUTION 23-141-R: Adopting the Batavia Fire Department Strategic Plan For 2024-2026 (MW) GS 

Motion was made by Ald. Wolff, seconded by Ald. Leman. 11 Ayes, 0 Nays, 3 Absent. Motion  passed. 

12. ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT 

None 

13. OTHER BUSINESS 

Ald. Wolff thanked everyone for their support offered to him and his family this year. 

14. MAYOR’S REPORT 

Mayor Schielke spoke with a Batavia High School graduate from 1965 who hasn’t been back in town for  many years. She was amazed at the improvements to downtown and all that has been done to improve the  town. Her Great Aunt lives in RiverRain Apartments and she expressed her gratitude for the housing  available to seniors.

Motion made by Ald. Wolff, Seconded by Ald. Solfa to adjourn the meeting. Voice vote made for meeting to be adjourned.
