As the filing deadline for Precinct Committeeperson in Illinois approaches, Republican State Representative candidate Aris Garcia encourages fellow citizens to consider putting their names forward for their precincts. Garcia took to Facebook to share the message, emphasizing the importance of active participation in local politics.

“With only one week left for filing consider putting your name in for your precinct,” Garcia said on Facebook.

To qualify, interested individuals must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, and residents and registered voters in the precinct where they plan to run. Garcia highlights the straightforward process, urging potential candidates to fill out the Precinct Committeeperson Primary Petition and ensure completion before printing the form.

The crucial deadline for collecting signatures and filing them with the County Clerk is set for Monday, Dec. 4. Candidates are advised to sign and circulate their petitions, with a minimum requirement of 10 valid signatures from registered voters in the precinct. However, Garcia recommends aiming for at least 20 signatures to strengthen the candidacy.

The filing commenced on Nov. 27. To provide further guidance or address inquiries about the process, individuals can reach out to Doug Ibendahl at (312) 648-0061 or doug.ibendahl@mail.com, according to Illinois Family Action.

Garcia’s call to action aligns with the broader election season in Illinois, where candidates are actively collecting signatures to secure a place on the March 19 primary ballot. This primary holds significant weight for Illinois voters as it involves selecting local representatives and participating in the nomination process for presidential candidates in both the Democratic and Republican parties. Additionally, the primary will determine the delegates representing the state in the party conventions scheduled for August. Aspiring Precinct Committeepersons are encouraged to engage in this democratic process and contribute to shaping the political landscape at the grassroots level.

Garcia is running for the 49th District which is currently represented by State Rep. Maura Hirschauer (D-Batavia). It includes parts of Batavia, West Chicago, South Elgin, Wayne, Bartlett and portions of Aurora and Geneva.
