Retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Patrick Scrogin will be the speaker at the Kane County Chapter of the Three Headed Eagle Alliance’s Politics and Pints event on May 10.

Scrogin is a wounded veteran of the Iraq War. He lost a leg in Iraq and has gone through 58 surgeries.

“Highly Decorated Combat Veteran shares his story of recovery and hope,” the event announcement reads. “Patrick’s Motto ‘The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.’”

The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Copper Fox located at 477 S. Third Street in Geneva. Food and beverages are available. The door fee is $15. Those interested in attending are asked to register at https://www.threeheadedeaglealliance.org.

Scrogin was injured in a helicopter accident while in Northern Iraq in 2007. Since his injuries, Scrogin has made a name for himself as a climber and hunter and was featured in a short film “Wounded But Not Broken” which shows his ability to overcome his injuries to engage in activities many thought impossible.

Havlicek Builders is building Scrogin a house in St. Charles through the Gary Sinise Foundation. The Gary Sinise Foundation tweeted about the gift in mid 2022.

“Our very own @GarySinise surprises our wounded hero with the ultimate surprise!! Watch as U.S. Army CW2 Patrick Scrogin realizes he’s going to receive a custom, mortgage-free home built specifically for him and his injuries. http://bit.ly/GSFRISE," the tweet reads.

Scrogin became emotional when speaking with Sinise about the gift.

“An especially adapted smart home for me would be a sense of freedom and not having to worry, struggle with the things I'm starting to struggle with and will struggle with as I get older. But most of all, just the safety and security of having a house that is designed specifically for my injuries,” Scrogin said in the video. “I would just like to thank Mr. Sinise on everything he's done. You know, you look at a gentleman like Gary that has given so much and it just makes me proud to be an American. It makes me not question one thing that I did for this country."

Sinise said he would love to work with Scrogin to work on this house and made sure Scrogin knows how much he and other veterans are appreciated.

“I can't thank you enough, not only for this, but and I seriously, sincerely mean it for everything that you've done," Scrogin told Sinise. "It means a lot to me. I try to do absolutely everything I can do to help out wounded veterans every day. And I'm not really on the receiving end of this too much, but I really appreciate everything that you do from the bottom of my heart.”
