City of Geneva City Council met Jan. 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

CALL TO ORDER 

The January 23, 2023 special meeting of the Geneva City Council was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the  Council Chambers of City Hall by Mayor Kevin Burns. 

Elected Officials present:  

Alderpersons: Amy Mayer, Becky Hruby, Gabriel Kaven, Dean Kilburg, Brad Kosirog, Craig Maladra,  Richard Marks, Robert Swanson 

Mayor Kevin Burns 

Elected Officials absent: Mike Bruno 

Others Present: City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins, Assistant City Administrator Ben McCready,  Community Development Director David DeGroot, Economic Development Director Cathleen  Tymoszenko, Finance Director Rita Kruse, Public Works Director Richard Babica, Fire Chief Michael  Antenore, Police Chief Eric Passarelli, Human Resources Generalist Mera Johnson 

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 

The pledge was led by Dir. Babica 

Mayor Burns held a brief moment of silence for those that lost their lives in the mass shooting in  Monterey Park, California on January 22. 

ITEMS OF BUSINESS 

1. Consider Approval of Ordinance No. 2023-02 Requesting a Transfer of Property from the Geneva  Public Library District to the City of Geneva, IL Pursuant to the Local Government Property Transfer  Act. 

Moved by Ald. Marks, seconded by Ald. Mayer 

City Admin. Dawkins stated that after discussions with the Library District, the City desired to acquire  the former library building property on James Street for $450,000.00, subject to appropriate due diligence.  She explained that once the city’s ordinance was approved, the Library board would pass their own  similar ordinance and subsequently both parties would enter into a purchase agreement, execute a deed,  and take all other necessary actions to acquire the property.

AYES: 9 (Burghart, Hruby, Kaven, Kilburg, Kosirog, Maladra, Marks, Mayer, Swanson) 

ABSENT: 1 (Bruno) 

NAYS: 0 

MOTION CARRIED 

NEW BUSINESS / PUBLIC COMMENT 

NONE 

ADJOURNMENT  

There being no further business, moved by Ald. Marks to adjourn the Special Geneva City Council  meeting.  

MOTION CARRIED by unanimous voice vote of those present. 

The meeting adjourned at 7:03 PM.
