City of Batavia City Council met July 5.

The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM.

Alderman Russotto led the Pledge of Allegiance.

8. PRESENTATION: Bikes For Batavia – Evan Thomas
Jared Heck and Evan Thomas addressed the Council. Seeking support from the Council and community to continue the “Bikes For Batavia” program which repairs pre-owned bikes to donate to people in need. They are seeking space or funding to secure space in order to maintain the program.
Mayor Schielke addressed Heck and Thomas affirming that Bikes for Batavia is a worthy effort and noted that the request will be discussed at an upcoming Committee of the Whole.
9. APPROVAL: Carnival Permit For Windmill City Festival And Waive Fee (JA 6/23/22 COW 6/28/22 9/0)
Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Russotto, to approve the permit. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/ 2 absent.
10. ORDINANCE 22-33: Grant Of Variances For Building Height And Signage – 550 North Randall Road (DMR 6/9/22 COW 6/28/22 9/0) CD
Ald. Wolff invited Paul Glantz, owner of Emagine Entertainment to speak about his business initiative and the amenities he hopes to bring to Batavia.
Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Russotto, to approve the ordinance. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/ 2 absent.
11. ORDINANCE 22-32: Authorizing Execution Of An Annexation Agreement For Property At 2S327 And 2S337 Hart Road (SCB 6/7/22 COW 6/28/22 9/0) CD

Ald. Chanzit provided an update on his email offering a cash reward for a tip that leads to a conviction in the incident of the theft of Pride flags.
Ald. Cerone inquired what steps have been taken towards posting a Deputy Fire Chief position opening. Administrator Newman reported that the job description has been finalized and that the position will be posted shortly.
