City of Aurora Veterans Advisory Council met July 13.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Order Chair Josh Pfeuffer called the meeting to order at 6 p.m.

Pledge of Allegiance Completed

Moment of Silence Completed

Roll Call Present – Josh Pfeuffer, Randy Fisher, Jose Cervantes, Patrica DeVore, Rick Lawrence Absent – Ansar Kazmi, Scott Maxson, Guillermo Trujillo (COA)

Mission Statement Completed

Acceptance of Previous Minutes June 8, 2022 The motion passed to accept the Minutes as made by Ms. DeVore and seconded by Mr.Lawrence.

Public Comment No public comment

Treasurer’s Report Money from the Scientel Golf outing was deposited in the Scholarship Fund instead of the Assistance Fund. Mr. Pfeuffer will work with CFFRV to get the error fixed.*

Scholarship Fund $47,357 (see error above)* (actual balance is $11,000.00)

Council Fund $21,062.66 Includes a new donation from SCR Towing of $250.00

Service Dogs Fund $145,440.65 Includes new money from the Golf Outing $12,143 Memorial Bricks Fund $1252.16 Includes money from the purchase of a new brick.

Assistance Fund $19,793.74 (Does not include the $36,357 deposited by mistake in the scholarship fund)*

Committee Report

Scholarship Fund A list of colleges and universities where ten of the recipients will attend was read.

AVAC Web / Social Media Ms. DeVore asked that the website to highlight ‘Lets Roll for Veterans” which is a fund raiser for Smiles for Vet. Mr. Cervantes has uploaded some action photos from the 4th of July caravan.

Service Dogs Mr. Pfeuffer said that one application has been submitted and is being processed. He said that two others have not been submitted and he is not optimistic that they will be completed. There is a 4th possible application by a female Vet from downstate. There are special circumstances surrounding her experiences.

Memorial Bricks Mr. Kazi was absent so no formal report was given. One brick was said for in June. It is unclear if the paperwork was submitted through CFFRV.

Assistance Fund No new applications since the last meeting. Once the funds are deposited in the correct funds the balance for Veteran Assistance will be $56,150.

COA Liaison Report Mr. Trujillo was absent . Mr. Pfeuffer stated that each Council member will received 2 polo shirts, 2 t-shirts and 1 light jacket

Upcoming Events August 6th – Veteran of the month – GAR Building 10:00 am Lance Corporal Lopez is the Vet of the Month (deceased) for August. Lance Hector Ramos is the honoree for September (deceased)

Operation Homefront is a program for school supplies for students from military families in cooperation with Dollar Tree stores.

September 16th is the national day for POWs / MIAs The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. at the Sunken Gardens.

Old Business Parade Update – Mr. Pfeuffer prefers to save the Parade discussion to a time when city official(s) are in attendance. He is working on that date.

There was good attendance at the “Vet of the Month” ceremony

Mr. Pfeuffer and Ms. DeVore are looking into AVAC visiting with vets in nursing homes and assistive living programs. This would be done on Veterans Day.and Veterans Day weekend.

New Business Mr.Lawrence is going to explore the Gold Star Family Foundation.

Adjournment At 6:58 Ms. DeVore made the motion to adjourn which was seconded by Mr. Lawrence and the motion passed.
