City of Batavia City Council met May 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER

The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM.

2. INVOCATION followed by PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Alderman Miller led the Pledge of Allegiance.

3. ROLL CALL

Aldermen in attendance at roll: Baerren (1), Solfa (1), Leman (2), Wolff (2), Ajazi (3), Chanzit (3), Malay (4), Connelly (4), Uher (5), Beck (5), Miller (7), Vogelsinger (7).

Ald. Chanzit read aloud the Consent agenda.

Motion by Ald. Chanzit, seconded by Ald. Solfa, to approve the consent agenda. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/2 absent.

7. MATTERS FROM THE PUBLIC: (For Items NOT on the Agenda) none seen

8. PROCLAMATION: National Public Works Week May 15-May 22, 2022 Alderman Chanzit read the proclamation aloud.

Motion by Ald. Chanzit, seconded by Ald. Beck, to approve the proclamation. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/2 absent.

The Mayor presented City of Batavia Public Works Director Gary Holm with a copy of the proclamation. Director Holm addressed the Council and thanked the public works staff.

9. APPROVAL: Waive Formal Bidding For 2022 Code Enforcement Abatement For Lawn Mowing Contract

Motion by Ald. Malay, seconded by Ald. Solfa, to approve waiving the formal bidding process. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/2 absent..

10. RESOLUTION 22-052-R: Authorizing Execution Of A One-Year Contract With Clauss Brothers, Inc. For 2022 Code Enforcement Abatement For Lawn Mowing (JA 4/21/22 COW 4/26/22 11/0) CD

Motion by Ald. Malay, seconded by Ald. Beck, to approve the resolution. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/2 absent.

11. APPROVAL: Pyrotechnic Permit – Revelry 675

Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Connelly, to approve the permit. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/2 absent.

12. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Director Margaret Perreault delivered her report on the recent and upcoming activities of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce. View recording for comments in full.

13. ORDINANCE 22-22: Annexing 209, 210, 213, 230, 231, 304, 305, 314 And 315 Evergreen Drive And 946 Main Street (SCB 4/4/22 COW 4/26/22 11/0) CD

Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Solfa, to approve the ordinance. Motion carried 12 yea/ 0 nay/2 absent.

14. CITY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT

City Administrator Laura Newman delivered her report. Review recording for comments in full.

16. OTHER BUSINESS

Ald Chanzit expressed his gratitude for the support he received during his recent surgery and recovery. He also spoke about the recent Batavia High School Pride Fest which he attended with the Mayor and City Administrator.

17. MAYOR’S REPORT

Mayor Schielke delivered his report. Review recording for comments in full. The Mayor suggested that some of the historic chimney stacks located on downtown properties may need structural review. Discussion ensued.

18. ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Solfa, to adjourn. Motion carried by voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
