City of Batavia Board of Fire & Police Commissioners met Jan. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

This meeting was held remotely via Zoom. The meeting was called to order at 4:03 p.m.

Roll Call

Members Present: Chairman Nancy Vance; Secretary Dennis Anderson, Commissioner Randy Zies Members Absent:

Others Present: Police Chief Daniel Eul, Recording Secretary Joanne Miller, Joseph Gudella

PUBLIC COMMENTS

None.

APPROVE PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Motion: To approve the December 21, 2021, Regular Meeting Minutes as presented.

Maker: Zies

Second: Anderson

Voice Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Absent. All in favor. Motion carried

INVOICES

Motion: To pay invoice #2007373 to Stephen A. Laser Associates in the amount of $1,100 for (2) two police officer candidate Individual Psychological Assessments: Joseph Gudella, & Robert Skrobot.

Voice Vote: 3 Ayes, 0 Nays, 0 Absent. All in favor. Motion carried

Fire Chief Randy Deicke and Police Deputy Chief Eric Blowers joined the meeting at 4:08 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS

Appointment of One (1) Probationary Police Officer

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners have been authorization to hire (1) police officer due to the Retirement of Deputy Chief Glenn Autenrieth on July 2, 2021. Joseph Gudella was given a conditional offer and has successfully completed the requirements within the offer.

Motion: To appoint Joseph Gudella to the position of Probationary Police Officer with the Batavia Police Department. Gudella’s start date will be determined by the Batavia Police Department Administration.

Police Eligibility List: Chief Eul discussed the progress of the police candidate background investigations. One of the candidates did not want the Investigation Unit to contact their current employer. The City of Batavia Human Resource Director recommended that they continue the background without contacting the employer, however if the candidate is given a conditional offer, then at that time Investigations must contact the employer as part of the conditional offer. The Board agrees with this recommendation. The candidate backgrounds will not be ready until February 11th. The Board decided to move the February meeting from February 1, 2022, to February 15, 2022, starting at noon to conduct police interviews.

Motion: To change the next meeting from February 1, 2022, to February 15, 2022, starting at Noon. The reason for this change is to conduct police candidate interviews.

Motion: To grant police candidate Corey Chereck a first pass on the October 5, 2021, Secondary Eligibility List, per his request.

OLD BUSINESS

Update on Probationary Police Officer Michael Hockett: Michael Hockett was previously scheduled to attend the January 3, 2022, Suburban Law Enforcement Academy Basic Law Enforcement Training, however due to illness he was unable to attend the first week of the academy and was no longer eligible to attend. He was able to transfer his enrollment to the Basic Law Enforcement Training at University of Illinois Urbana – Champaign Police Training Institute (PTI), starting January 17, 2022.

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to consider, a motion was made by Secretary Anderson to adjourn the meeting at 4:23 p.m. Seconded by Commissioner Zies. All in favor. Motion carried.
