House Republican Majority has issued the following press release:
SPRINGFIELD, IL – It’s been a week since federal prosecutors announced the 22-count indictment of former House Speaker Michael Madigan, and State Representative Maura Hirschauer refuses to speak directly to her constituents regarding one of the most extensive corruption probes in Illinois history.
Her ongoing silence is in direct odds with statements made as a candidate. During the 2020 campaign, Maura Hirschauer stated, “The allegations against Speaker Madigan are serious, and if they are proven true, they should be condemned by all Illinois politicians” (Chicago Sun-Times, 9/7/20).
“State Rep. Maura Hirschauer has $523,000 reasons for not condemning Madigan’s blatant disregard for the law,” said Jayme Siemer, Executive Director of the House Republican Majority. “If State Rep. Hirschauer cannot loudly and directly condemn Michael Madigan, then voters must condemn her for failing to live up to the promises she made as a candidate. Choosing the side of good government is not a difficult decision unless you’re Maura Hirschauer.”
None of Rep. Hirschauer’s governmental and political websites or social media accounts mention the 22-count indictment against former House Speaker Michael Madigan. While some House Democrats stepped up and called for Madigan’s ouster, Hirschauer was not one of them. Instead, she chose to be one of the House Democrats believing he deserved another term as House Speaker, clearly payback for the $523,000 in political contributions made by Madigan on her behalf.
State Representative Hirschauer also has not indicated whether she’ll donate any of the $523,000 in campaign contributions received from the indicted Madigan.
