House Republican Majority has issued the following press release:

SPRINGFIELD, IL – For the past few years, it seemed the FBI became the 178th unofficial member of the Illinois General Assembly as public corruption embroiled the State Capitol. The latest betrayal of the public’s trust comes from former House Speaker Michael Madigan, who was indicted yesterday with 22 counts of racketeering, conspiracy, bribery, wire fraud, and attempted extortion.

“Not even a 22-count federal indictment gives State Representative (Suzanne) Ness the courage to speak out against Michael Madigan,” stated Jayme Siemer, Executive Director of the House Republican Majority. “It’s clear Madigan’s $1.2 million in political contributions to Ness continues to buy her loyalty while the public’s trust in state government continues to erode.”

Rep. Ness has joined Democratic House colleagues in refusing to pass meaningful ethics reform even after the Legislative Inspector General quit her job, citing the Legislature's lack of seriousness in addressing corruption.
