City of Geneva Cultural Arts Commission met Nov. 4.
Here are the minutes provided by the commission:
Commission Members Present: Amy Cook, Doug Holzrichter, Jan Schmuckal, Dana Teichart, Tim Vetang Commission Members Absent: Kent Gallagher, Kevin Heckman
Also in Attendance: Cate Tracy, City of Geneva
1. Call to Order: Chairman Vetang called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.
2. Amendments to Agenda: Agenda stood as presented.
3. Approve Minutes –Holzrichter motioned and Schmuckal seconded for approval of the October minutes. The minutes were unanimously approved.
4. Review Financial Reports - Holzrichter
The current Fund Equity Balance is $31,847.32. Financial Reports were accepted as presented.
Tracy requested that the Commissioners review their project budgets for FY 22, which begins May 1, 2022. Staff will need budget information by Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021.
5. Library Bike Rack – Vetang
No report.
6. Black History Month Ideas - Vetang
Vetang reported that there is an opportunity for a commissioner or event chair to coordinate a film streaming in February for Black History Month. The 2020 coordinator has resigned. If anyone is interested in this project, please contact Tim Vetang.
7. Chalk Art Ideas – Heckman
Report will be presented next month.
8. REPORTS
a. Bus Stop Art – Schmuckal/Tracy
The bus stop on Rt. 38 in under the jurisdiction of IDOT. Permission to install artwork will need to be granted from PACE and IDOT. City staff will coordinate communication with the agencies.
b. Foundation Update – Holzrichter
GCA Ribbon Cutting will be November 12, 3-4 pm.
Currently, there are several exhibits and classes at the new location.
GCA is talking to current possible donors to name the gallery and working on increasing new memberships.
c. Steeple Walk – Gallagher
Tickets will become available on November 15 through Paypal at Genevarts.org, the Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Geneva. Tickets will also be sold a week earlier in participating churches.
d. Art on Fire Update – Vetang
Vetang called all four winners of the painting contest. Two winners will attend the City Council meeting on November 15 to receive the awards
e. Literary Event – Cook
The program flyer will include the total amount of prizes, $1,500, to attract more participants. Feedback was given about the proposal to Commissioner Cook, who will make the updates.
“Geneva Write Now” will begin January 10, 2022. There will be three judges.
f. Geneva Fine Art Fair Booth – Vetang/Holzrichter
A report will be presented in 2022.
g. RiverPark Summer Concert Series – Teichart
A report will be presented in 2022.
h. Shakespeare in the Park
Gail Gaboda is in the planning process for this event to be held the Saturday after the Fine Art Fair.
i. Commissioner Comments & Ideas –
Schmuckal inquired if permission was granted to remove the unwanted items from the storage shed. Tracy reported that the Surplus Resolution was approved at the Committee of the Whole and it would advance to the City Council.

10. Adjourn - Motion to adjourn was made by Schmuckal and seconded by Teichart. Meeting adjourned at 7:56 pm.
