City of Aurora Veterans Advisory Council met July 14.
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
Call to Order
The Chair, Mr. Hart, called the meeting to order at 5:33
Pledge of Allegiance
Mr. Hart lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Moment of Silence
A Moment of Silence was observed.
Roll Call
Five members and the COA Liaison were in attendance. Those in attendance were Mr. Bruce Cairns, Mr. Jose Cervantes, Mr. Will Hart, Mr. Ken Leask, Mr. Josh Pfeuffer and Ms. Alex Voigt (COA)
Acceptance of previous Minutes (June 9, 2021)
The June Minutes were approved in a motion by Mr. Pfeuffer and seconded by Mr. Cairns. They will be sent to the COA to be kept in an electronic file available to Council members and the public.
Public Comments
Lisa Garcia spoke about the upcoming Fox Valley Marine’s Golf Outing.
Treasurer’s Report - No report.
Committee Reports
Scholarship Fund – No report.
AVAC Web/Social Media No report – chair of the committee was not present
Service Dogs Fund
Mr. Pfeuffer reported that we are still waiting for information on the potential candidate from Naperville.
Memorial Bricks Fund
Discussion about ramping up the efforts regarding the scholarship fund.
Assistance Fund
Mr. Pfeuffer provided an update on the “Hope for Tomorrow”, project. An appreciation cookout will be planned for the companies who donated their services to this endeavor.
COA Liaison Report
Ms. Voigt reported out on the process of updating Boards and Commissions, additional information will be provided soon regarding the reappointment/appointment process. Some members acknowledged they did not send in their forms indicating their interest.
Old Business
Memorial Bricks
An event is scheduled for Sunday, August 1st at Phillips Park. AVAC members will bring pop up tents, chairs and a sound system will be provided. Mr. Hart will reach out to Chuck Nelson about being the guest speaker, Ms. Voigt will reach out to the Aurora Police Department Honor Guard about presenting colors. Mr. Pfeuffer recommended AVAC donate a brick to Bobby from Semper Fi and Semper Fi in general for their donation of time and services. Mr. Cairns made a motion, seconded by Mr. Leask.
AVAC Coins No report since Ms. Alvarez has resigned.
Plaque for Chuck Mr. Cairns is working on this.
Dogs for Vets No update.
New Business
Announcements / Good of the Order - None

Adjournment The motion to adjourn was made at 6:06 p.m. by Mr. Cairns and seconded by Mr. Leask and passed unanimously.
