City of Geneva issued the following announcement on Mar. 11.
Residents who have subscribed to MetroNet's TV service can now watch City meetings and other Geneva Broadcast Network programming on channel 93 starting in March.
The Geneva City Council approved a cable franchise agreement with MetroNet in 2017 to allow the company to install fiber optic cable and infrastructure in utility easements throughout the community. Construction started that fall with the last phase wrapping up in 2021. As part of the franchise agreement, MetroNet agreed to allocate one channel to the City's government access television station.
For years, Geneva Broadcast Network has aired live broadcasts of City Council and Committee of the Whole meetings. Planning & Zoning Commission and Historic Preservation Commission meetings were added in 2020 with the state's COVID-19 health guidelines limiting in-person attendance. Broadcasting the meetings live allows the community to contemporaneously participate with public comment remotely through the City's digital meeting platform.
Those meetings also are replayed on Geneva Broadcast Network throughout the week.
Besides MetroNet's new channel, Geneva Broadcast Network can be viewed on Comcast channel 10, AT&T U-Verse channel 99 and is streamed live on the City's website and YouTube channel. All meetings and Geneva Broadcast Network programming also can be watched On Demand on YouTube.
