City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Jan. 22.
The Elgin Area Chamber (EAC), in partnership with the City of Elgin, invite the community to view Mayor Kaptain’s virtual State of the City Address. The virtual program can be viewed on the City’s YouTube Channel and it will be available on City of Elgin Facebook page, website and on Elgin's public access municipal access channel, Elgin Channel 17 (on Comast and WOW) and Channel 99 (on AT&T). It will also be available for viewing on the EAC Facebook page, EAC website, Elgin Development Group website and EAC YouTube Channel.
“Elgin has always been a center for commerce and industry and the Elgin Area Chamber is pleased to be a partner with the City of Elgin supporting the business community and helping create a climate of growth and success,” said Elgin Area Chamber President & CEO Carol Gieske, “It’s our pleasure to bring this event to the community.”
Elgin Today host Jeff Myers interviews Mayor Kaptain to reflect on events of 2020, City operations, services and finances, capital improvement projects and new and expanding businesses. They also look ahead and Mayor Kaptain provides insights to Elgin's outlook for businesses, education and recreation.
This is the first time Mayor Kaptain’s State of the City Address is being presented in a virtual format. Mayor Kaptain normally makes his annual presentation to the business community at the EAC’s breakfast event at Elgin Community College.
“The pandemic has changed how we do a lot of things, including this annual State of the City Address,” said Mayor David Kaptain. “One thing that hasn’t changed is our strong relationship with the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce and I thank them for finding a way to still offer this presentation.”
The Elgin Area Chamber thanks AT&T for sponsoring this event.
“Now more than ever, having open communications between the business community and our local and state government is crucial,” said Director of External Affairs for AT&T Jaci Kator. “The State of the City Address has become a landmark event for the mayor of Elgin and an opportunity for civic and business leaders as well as the community to engage with local government.”
