Republican activist Jeanette Ward fears the rebellion against Gov. J.B. Pritzker may be just kicking into high gear.

“I think it’s because he has refused to convene the legislature to deal with the COVID crisis that is impacting so many people here in Illinois,” Evans told the Kane County Reporter. “If he keeps refusing to consult with other lawmakers, there’s going to be even more mass resistance to his proclamations, especially since he doesn’t seem to abide by them himself.”

In standing up to Pritzker, Evans reasons many small business owners are now doing the only thing they feel they can do to have any chance of keeping their business alive.

“These shutdowns and restrictions are destroying our small business industry," she added. “So many of these owners are now acting out of desperation. Instead of acting like a governor, we’re seeing Gov. Pritzker behaving like a king with all his edicts.”

Ward, who narrowly lost her 25th District state Senate race to incumbent Democrat Karina Villa, said Pritzker now threatening to strip businesses that violate his order of their state licenses is just more of the same flawed thinking and bullying.

“He’s going to have a massive lawsuit before him,” she said. “He’s been outside his authority with these edicts as of April 7. For some reason, he keeps pressing his luck, thinking he can get away with things. But now, I think even he’s starting to realize that his words don’t have the force of law.”

Since the pandemic hit, Ward said nothing the governor has done has made things easier for small business owners.

“It’s almost like he wants to destroy the entire industry here in Illinois,” she said. “I think it may have something to do with the federal bailout he’s hoping to get from the government.”
