Q1 2020 Recap: Parolees in Kane County convicted of crimes against children

There were two offenders convicted of crimes against children released on parole in Kane County during the first quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Kane County Reporter.

The data shows that both of the released offenders among the parolees were men. Of the parolees sentenced for crimes against children, one was a veteran, and the median age was 38. The younger parolee was a 31-year-old man sentenced in 2017, and the oldest was a 45-year-old man sentenced in 2016.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Brian Gavina. He was convicted in 2017 when he was 29 years old. He is now 31.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of crimes against children were paroled during the first quarter of 2020 in each Illinois county.
