Republican state House hopeful Ben Bierly has received the endorsement of the Chicago Tribune in his run to replace outgoing Democrat Pat McGuire in the 43rd District.
In throwing its support behind Bierly, the Tribune hails his push for tax and pension reform for as being tailored-made for the cash strapped state at this point and time. While welcoming the support against democrat John Connor, Bierly insists it won’t change anything about the message he’s been delivering since the day he officially became a candidate.
“From the very beginning, I’ve tried to stress to voters that they really have a choice,” Bierly told the Kane County Reporter. “I want them to know that there’s someone on the ballot that shares the same fiscal and ethical concerns that make this district what it is.”
As Election Day draws closer, Bierly said he senses his message is taking greater hold with voters, especially with Gov. J.B. Pritzker pushing a progressive tax proposal that’s also slated to appear on the ballot.
“While the governor keeps insisting this will only mean higher taxes for the rich, that’s hard to believe," he said. “The bottom line is we need greater fiscal responsibility and that’s what I’ve been sharing with the voters.”
Bierly said his push for term limits as a way of limiting all the corruption now plaguing Springfield has also strongly resonated with voters.
“We’ve definitely connected on a number of issues,” he added. “Now, it’s just a matter of getting people out to the polls and making sure they have their voices heard. From my many conversations with them, I think we want the same things and I know what would be best for this community.”
