St Charles FD responds to 79 fires in 2018

St Charles Fire District responded to 791 calls in 2018 - 0.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in St Charles included 79 fires - 50 structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 20 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $191,175 in fire loss - or about $2,420 per fire.

The department also received 708 false calls, including five malicious calls and 703 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The St. Charles Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 46 active employees and 26 retired or inactive employees, was $1,290,857 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $12,412 for every fire in 2017.
