Batavia FD responds to 88 fires in 2018

Batavia Fire District responded to 670 calls in 2018 - 23.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Batavia included 88 fires - 46 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 35 other fires. The fire department also responded to six calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $190,220 in fire loss - or about $2,162 per fire.

The department also received 576 false calls, including six malicious calls and 570 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Batavia Fire District had an annual budget of $284,724 in 2018.

The Batavia Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 24 active employees and 19 retired or inactive employees, was $1,108,530 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $14,586 for every fire in 2017.
