Elgin Fire District responded to 1290 calls in 2018 - 2.2 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Elgin included 276 fires - 144 structure fires, 55 vehicle fires and 77 other fires. The fire department also responded to six calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,030,081 in fire loss - or about $7,355 per fire.

The department also received 1008 false calls, including 40 malicious calls and 968 other false calls.

The calls resulted in six civilian fire-related injuries and one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, five fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and 46 were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Elgin Fire District had an annual budget of $7,475,678 in 2018.
