City of Batavia Bicycle Commission Met August 10

Meeting909

City of Batavia Bicycle Commission met Aug. 10.

Here is the agenda provided by the commission:

1. Roll Call: Amy Moore, Joanne Spitz, John Gamble, Randy Deicke, Dave Pedersen, Jared Heck, Evan Thomas

Absent: Brett Garrett, Steve Ericksen, John Burnham, Emil Jensen, Jenn Ress, Troy Simpson

2. Approve Minutes

3. Frog Ride: 40 riders signed up. 18 taking bus back. Suggested items to bring: water bottle, extra tubes, rain gear. Looking forward to a great day. Will have a bus to social distance and a trailer to take bikes back.

4. Bikes for Batavia: Evan went over several things. He wants to put in a bike lock/rack for people to drop off bike donations when none of us can meet them.

We all approved, and Evan will get the items needed and submit receipts to Randy.

• We have over 40 bikes, and need to find kids and adults who need them

• Jared and Evan will make a list of parts they would like to have on hand

• Considering a form for bike requests, especially for those who can donate towards them, who may not need a free bike. Joanne sending Jared some forms we have used over the years.

• Talked about giving some to Working Bikes; Evan prefers to keep them here, maybe sell as is, and use those funds towards BfB

• Should put together budget for BfB for this coming year

• Bicycle Commission has about $1,000; should get about $300 from Frog ride.

• Evan got ok to put up a BfB sign in the window….Dave working on ideas.

• Shawn Mazza talked to Evan about only registering bikes that are given to Batavia residents. We may register bikes to BfB….to be determined. We registered 2 bikes that ended up going to a family in Aurora.

5. Bike Share: Several towns postponed the program: Oswego, St. Charles, and S Elgin. And no docking station in S Elgin, as originally planned. Towns who will start the program include Batavia, Elgin, Montgomery, and Aurora. The ribbon cutting on July 31 was postponed as E bikes are not ready yet. Marketing materials are coming out soon. Will wait to share press release.

6. Jared will send letter to mayor requesting to be a commissioner, and will include John, so the mayor knows there is an opening. We welcome Jared!!!!!

7. Fermi: Joanne got a response about when they will open….totally vague with no date.

8. Bike Plan: Amy asked if city will proceed with updating bike plan. We need to request it to be on next year’s budget if it is postponed.

9. Signage on trail: Dave suggested we update our maps on the kiosks and will look into it.
